The Incredible Lightness of Being (At Home)

You've likely heard the expression "Follow Your Bliss". My bliss is being at home. Because I have Epstein Barr Virus (aka CFS), I've had occasion to be at home, albeit sick, for two separate lengthy stretches, a five- and a six-month stretch. I never grew tired of being at home. I was often too weak to even drive myself to doctor appointments, and I slept 12 to 16 hours a night, plus a lengthy nap each afternoon, but all the while, I loved being home. I developed an appreciation for high thread count sheets, soft, downy cotton quilts, and a bed piled high with pillows.

My "Princess and the Pea" bed used to challenge the pups, too high, too difficult for them to jump up on. I've put an antique footstool at the foot of my bed, so that they have a way to get up there on their own. I believe they, too, have developed an appreciation for my luxurious bedding!

I've had friends tell me that they'd get so bored, they'd be crazy if they had to stay home in a similar situation. I don't know if I've ever in my life felt bored, but if I was, I know this --

I wasn't at home.

You've said it perfectly. I love to be home, too.

Mama always said "If you're bored, you're boring."
